Another coronavirus death reported from Riverbend in KCK, increasing toll to 25

Another resident from a Kansas City, Kansas, rehabilitation and nursing facility has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 25, the local health department announced Tuesday.

There have been 116 coronavirus cases linked to the outbreak at Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation, according to numbers provided by the Unified Government Public Health Department.

Ninety-two residents have tested positive, including eight who are in the hospital, and 24 staff members have tested positive.

Riverbend leaders first notified the health department on April 1 that one resident and one employee had tested positive for COVID-19. Since then, the facility has become the site of the largest COVID-19 outbreak in Kansas.

Wyandotte County, where Riverbend is located, has had over 400 cases and at least 45 deaths as of late Tuesday afternoon, according to the county’s website.

Statewide, at least 2,025 have tested positive for COVID-19 and 107 people have died from the disease, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
