Pedestrian killed, another injured after being hit by car in Kansas City, police say

One man died and another person was injured after being struck by a car Wednesday in Kansas City, police say.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Wornall Road at West 98th Street.

Kansas City police said in a statement that a northbound Dodge Avenger struck two pedestrians who were crossing the road.

The driver stopped at the scene and provided a statement to police. Police said the driver was not impaired and was released at the scene.

One of the pedestrians died at the scene. Police later identified the man as Theodore W. Schroeder, 83.

The second pedestrian, said to be a 79-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition Wednesday night.

The crash investigation was ongoing.
