This weekend’s Snake Saturday Parade and Festival, including the Charity Cook-off, in North Kansas City has been canceled as a precaution to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, according to a post on Facebook.

“It is with great regret, but with the upmost concern for public safety, that we take extra precaution and cancel the 36th Annual Snake Saturday Parade and Festival, including the Charity Cook-Off,” the Snake Saturday board and committees said in the posting. “We recognize this is a huge disappointment to the charities, the spectators as well as every participant.”

The announcement came shortly after parade organizers canceled next week’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Kansas City.

Snake Saturday Parade organizers said that with the support of its sponsors, title sponsor North Kansas City Hospital and North Kansas City, they will award prize money to every charity who entered the parade or charity cook-off.

“After all, philanthropy is what Snake Saturday is all about,” the organizers said.

The organizers expressed their support to the entertainment venues that worked to prepare for this weekend. It encouraged people to continue to go out and support them.

“See you in 2021!” organizers said.
