KC man reported missing last month died in car crash discovered Monday along I-435
A 37-year-old man reported missing last month in Kansas City has been identified as the victim of a fatal car crash discovered Monday morning, police said.
Terell Bandy had been reported missing after he was last seen about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 16 in the area of Eastwood Trafficway and Oak Leaf Drive. Family members told police they are concerned for his welfare.
Police distributed a flier seeking information about Bandy on Feb. 25.
Nearly two weeks later, police were called shortly before 11 a.m. Monday when a road crew found a Chevrolet Impala wrecked alongside Interstate 435 near 87th Street in south Kansas City. Officers found the driver, later identified as Bandy, dead at the scene.
Police said it appeared the wreck had happened some time before it was discovered.
After investigating, police said the Impala had been traveling south when it left the highway, continued on a grassy area west of the road, and crashed in a heavily wooded creek bed.
The area where the car came to rest is obscured from the view of passing motorists, police said.
