One person found dead in Kansas City house fire Saturday night

Fire department crews found a person dead in a house while responding to a fire Saturday night in Kansas City, police said.

The fire occurred in a three-story house the 3000 block of East Sixth Street. The death is being investigated as a fire fatality, not a homicide, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The cause of the fire was undetermined as of Sunday, said Assistant Chief Jimmy Walker of the Kansas City Fire Department.

The fire started in the basement and spread to the upper floors, Walker said. The body was found on the second floor.

Fire and police officials did not immediately release the person’s name Sunday.
