Teen driver, 12-year-old killed in head-on crash near Strasburg, MO Highway Patrol says

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a teenage driver and his 12-year-old passenger were the two people killed in a head-on crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Cass County.

The wreck happened around 3:45 p.m. on Missouri 58, west of South Shimel Road near Strasburg.

Preliminary findings indicated that an eastbound 1998 Honda Accord, driven by a 16-year-old boy, had veered off the road to the right. The driver then overcorrected and crossed the center line, striking a westbound pickup truck head on, the highway patrol stated in its online crash report.

Sgt. Bill Lowe, a highway patrol spokesman, said the teen and a passenger in the car died at the scene. The report said the passenger was a 12-year-old girl. Their names have not been released.

The driver of the truck, a 49-year-old man from Harrisonville, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The highway patrol’s Major Crash Investigative Unit remained at the scene for more than four hours Tuesday night. The highway was reopened just before 8:30 p.m.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

This is a developing story.
