A man died Friday after a car he was under fell on him in downtown Kansas City, police said.

Kansas City police were called around 11 a.m. to a parking lot at 600 Main in reference to a car that had fallen on a person.

Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a Kansas City police spokeswoman, said it appeared the victim, an adult male, was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

El-Ashkar said the circumstances surrounding the incident remained under investigation Friday afternoon, and no further information was released.

The owner of the vehicle told local news organizations, including KCTV5, that it appeared the man was trying to remove the car’s catalytic converter when the vehicle fell on him.
