Driver killed in one-vehicle crash south of Olathe Wednesday afternoon

Update: The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim on Thursday as 46-year-old Alexis Lewis, of Gardner.

A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash south of Olathe Wednesday afternoon, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreck was reported about 1:17 p.m. on 175th Street, west of U.S. 169.

Deputy Claire Canaan, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said an SUV was headed east on 175th Street when it left the road, struck a tree and came to a stop in a field down the hill The driver died at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Part of 175th Street was shut down in both directions between U.S. 169 and Lone Elm Road for about four hours Wednesday afternoon as the sheriff’s office continued to investigate the fatal crash. The road was reopened just before 5:45 p.m.
