UPS contract worker died after being caught on conveyor belt at Kansas City facility

A contractor who was seriously injured while working on a conveyor belt system at a UPS facility in Kansas City has died, according to UPS officials.

The name of the victim has not been released. The accident happened Monday evening at the facility located at 1010 North Century Drive.

Fire crews removed the worker from the conveyor belt system and took him to North Kansas City Hospital. He was given CPR on the way. The worker died Tuesday.

“We are saddened for the loss of a vendor’s employee, who was maintaining equipment at one of our facilities,” according to an email from UPS officials. “We are working with the responding authorities, and extend our heartfelt condolences to the individual’s family, friends and coworkers.”

Authorities have not said how the man became caught in the conveyor belt system.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
