KC Streetcar to suspend service during Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade

With record crowds expected downtown for the Super Bowl parade Wednesday, KC Streetcar announced it will suspend service Wednesday until after the parade and rally at Union Station, according to a news release from the streetcar authority.

Officials said safety and operational considerations, as well as parade logistics at Union Station, were factors in their decision to halt service before and during the parade.

As a result of that decision, streetcar service will not resume Wednesday until it’s safe to do so after the parade.

The parade for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will start at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and will be followed by a victory rally at Union Station. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The final score was 31-20.

The exact route is to be announced Tuesday, along with transportation and public safety details, officials said.

Many schools across the Kansas City metro have canceled classes so that students, teachers and staff can attend the festivities.
