Decked out for Red Friday, thousands rally for Chiefs in KC’s Power & Light District
Thousands of Chiefs fans have kicked off Super Bowl weekend with a big party in Kansas City’s Power & Light District.
Decked out in jerseys and other team merch for Red Friday, the crowd packed the Kansas City Live Block, cheering and rallying for a Chiefs win in Miami against the San Francisco 49ers. It’s the team’s return to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years.
Several waved signs and flags, letting it be known that this is Chiefs Kingdom.
“Hey! Go Chiefs!”
“Let’s go Chiefs!”
“MVP!”
Friday’s event brought in KC Wolf and the Chiefs Rumble to drum up the hype.
Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne was set to perform at the “Red Kingdom Rally” toward the end of the night.
The KC Streetcar has also been covered in the team’s colors and life-size images of the players for the game this weekend.
The festivities continue Sunday with the “Super Watch Party” beginning at noon in the Kansas City Live Block. Super Bowl LIV starts at 5:30 p.m.
The watch party is free to attend. Anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and after 9 p.m. only those 21 or older will be admitted, according to the event page.
The Power & Light District also announced on its Twitter page that it will be closing off the streets and expanding the party onto Grand Street.
