Two-alarm fire causes evacuation of UPS facility in Kansas City, Kansas

Employees were evacuated from a UPS facility in Kansas City, Kansas, after a fire broke out Thursday.

The incident was reported about 11:15 a.m. in the 200 block of North James Street.

The blaze started after welding near a conveyor belt caught materials on fire, said Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department Assistant Chief Morris Letcher.

Crews extinguished the fire in less than 20 minutes.

A second alarm was called because of the possibility of the fire spreading and combustible materials inside the facility, Letcher said.

No injuries were reported.

North James Street was blocked in both directions.
