Is it Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid or his doppelganger ‘Almost Andy’?
He never goes anywhere without his Andy bag. You never know, the Chiefs might need him.
Matt Black of Lee’s Summit, aka “Almost Andy,” is prepared. There’s a headset, a play card, a red pen, a pack of gum and even a little makeup, with which Black transforms himself into the likeness one of the NFL’s most victorious coaches, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
Real Andy is taking the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl LIV in Miami, where the Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. It’s the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years. Black, a “huge Chiefs fan,” couldn’t be happier.
Black says his occasional transformation into “Almost Andy” started one Halloween when Black needed a costume and thought he would go as a Chiefs player. His plan changed when in the mirror he saw a potential Andy Reid looking back at him. Black worked on his look and imitating Reid’s mannerisms and it paid off. Last summer at Chiefs’ training camp in St. Joseph, Black won the Andy Reid lookalike contest.
When he’s not “Almost Andy,” Black is VP of sales at Hyalogic, a company that sells hyaluronic acid products. He sings in a choir and occasionally performs with the Lyric Opera.
Black said he gets a lot of double takes when he’s “Almost Andy” and is often asked to pose for selfies with Chiefs fans.
