Woman rescued, three dogs dead in Olathe house fire

A woman was rescued from a house fire in Olathe Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

Olathe Fire Department crews responded to the fire about 9:45 a.m. at a home in the 700 block of North Willie Street, just west of Kansas Avenue.

Arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the house, said Capt. Mike Hall, a fire department spokesman.

“When firefighters got here, they had a lot of smoke blowing across the street to the the east — they could barely see the house,” Hall said.

Firefighters rescued the woman who was trapped on the second floor of the home. She was doing okay but she was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Hall said. She did not appear to be injured.

The house suffered extensive damage. The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City is helping the woman and two other adults, who were displaced by the fire.

Three dogs died in the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
