Motorcyclist dies in accident on 291 near Scherer Road in Lee’s Summit

One person died Friday in a wreck involving a motorcycle and an SUV just before 1 p.m. on Missouri 291 at Scherer Road in Lee’s Summit.

The motorcycle was traveling south on 291 when it hit an SUV attempting to cross the highway traveling east, Lee’s Summit Police Department spokesman Christopher Depue said in a news release.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured, Depue said.

Police closed down the highway’s southbound lanes about half a mile from the scene at Persels Road following the crash, Depue said. The closure is expected to last two to three hours.

The name of the motorcyclist has not yet been released.
