Flooding closes boat ramps around Perry Lake

Recent heavy rainfall and high water levels prompted the Army Corps of Engineers to close all of its boat ramps Tuesday at Perry Lake.

Kenneth Wade, operations project manager for the corps’ Perry Lake Project, estimated that the boat ramps would reopen about June 21.

When boaters get back on the water, Wade advised caution as recent storms have thrown logs and other debris into the lake.

Flooding over roads has also closed Rock Creek Park campground. Camping is still available at Slough Creek, Longview and Old Town campgrounds, but their boat ramps are closed.

Perry Lake’s water level was 17 feet higher than normal at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, but it crested on June 8 and has started to fall, Wade said.
