Two KC area schools receive Blue Ribbon honors from U.S.

Kansas City Public Schools’ Lincoln College Preparatory Academy and Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic School in Lee’s Summit are two of 13 schools in Missouri and Kansas honored Tuesday as Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

Nationwide, 337 public and private schools received the honor for overall excellence and their progress in closing the achievement gap among student subgroups, especially for disadvantaged and minority students.

“All students, no matter their name or ZIP code, can flourish when schools provide safe, creative and challenging learning environments,” U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said in a written statement.
