Adult killed in Grandview arson house fire identified

Authorities have identified one victim of a Grandview arson residential fire as Anika M. Hobley, 37, of Kansas City.

A 14-month-old girl who lived in the home and later was pronounced dead at an area hospital remains unidentified. Another adult was taken to a hospital with critical injuries after the fire Monday.

The Grandview Police Department issued a news release late Tuesday saying it had ruled the fire to be arson, but it gave no details.

Firefighters responding just after 3 a.m. Monday to the residence in the 12000 block of Belmont Avenue found Hobley’s body in the home’s basement.

Two girls, ages 10 and 6, leaped from a window about 10 feet above the ground to escape the flames. They knocked on the door of a neighbor, who called 911.

The Missouri state fire marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation.
