A 75-year-old Kansas City man drowned Wednesday evening after he fell overboard into the Osage River in Miller County, Mo.

Larry J. Pennington lost his balance about 5:10 p.m. while he was moving gear around in his boat at Chaney Drive near the Osage River Bridge.

His boat was docked at the time of the accident, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

A boater pulled Pennington from the water and an ambulance rushed him to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday. Pennington was not wearing a life vest, according to the patrol.

This is Missouri Highway Patrol Troop F’s second drowning in May and the third for 2015.
