Pedestrian killed on U.S. 71 in south KC; police investigating
Kansas City police said a pedestrian was struck and killed on U.S. 71 South Tuesday night.
The deadly crash happened around 6:12 p.m. on the highway, also known as Interstate 49, south of Longview Road.
Police said a Volkswagen car traveling south in the far left lane was unable to stop and struck a male pedestrian who was trying to cross the highway for unknown reasons.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Four southbound lanes of the highway near Red Bridge and Longview roads were closed for more than two hours as police investigated.
The southbound lanes of the highway were reopened later Tuesday night.
The crash remained under investigation.
