Woman critically injured in Overland Park house fire; rescued from basement
Overland Park fire crews fighting a house fire Sunday night rescued a woman from the basement who was being treated for critical injuries.
The fire department reported about 9 p.m. that crews were responding to a fire call in the 7500 block of Kessler Lane and found the house with heavy smoke through the roof.
By 9:30 p.m. the fire was reported under control.
It was a relatively easy fire to quell, said Overland Park Fire Department spokesman Jason Rhodes, but a dangerous one.
“It was a very smokey fire and it was contained within that living compartment,” he said. “That victim is who we are worried about.”
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Sunday.
