Children among the injured after multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 35

A multiple vehicle collision Monday evening on Interstate 35 and Johnson Drive in Merriam injured several people, including several children, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. when a northbound 2008 Dodge Caravan failed to slow down in time and rear-ended a 2002 Buick Century. The crash caused a chain-reaction collision that involved three other vehicles.

Several people, including an 8-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl, were taken to hospitals.

The extent of their injuries and their conditions were unknown.

Traffic along the interstate was momentarily shut down while investigators gathered evidence.

No other details were released.
