Updated: Police ID 26-year-old Shawnee man killed by vehicle backing up in driveway

Update: Police on Tuesday identified the man killed by a vehicle backing up in a driveway as Hunter McPhail, 26, of Shawnee.

A 26-year-old Shawnee man died Monday morning when a vehicle backing up in a driveway struck and killed him, according to Shawnee police.

The identity of the victim was being withheld until family could be notified.

The crash occurred about 9:20 a.m. in the 23500 block of W. 73rd Street, which is near 73rd and Hedge Lane Terrace.

The victim was found in the driveway of a duplex. A 51-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman, who was driving the vehicle at the time, is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The Shawnee Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash. Chaplains with the Shawnee police and fire departments are supporting the people involved.
