A man died following a three-vehicle wreck in east Kansas City on Saturday, police said.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. at 23rd Street and Brighton Avenue.

In a statement, police said a Honda Accord traveling north on Brighton had pulled onto 23rd Street in front of a Dodge Dakota truck. The Dodge struck the Honda, which was knocked to the east. Police said a westbound Chevrolet Suburban then hit the Dodge truck.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said the victim, an adult male, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. His identity has not been released by authorities.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

A woman in the Honda car was not injured. Police said her 6-year-old daughter was secured in a booster seat behind her and did not complain of injuries, though the child was taken to a medical facility to be evaluated as a precaution.

The crash remained under investigation late Saturday afternoon.
