Overland Park police took a Shawnee Mission middle schooler into custody Wednesday after the school district learned of threats of violence posted by the student.

The Westridge Middle School student threatened the school community on social media, according to reports, so the district contacted both its own police as well as Overland Park police.

Principal Jeremy McDonnell said in a message to parents, “We are confident that there is no on-going threat to the school community.

“I want to express my appreciation to all those who shared information with us, and to staff for their quick and efficient response.”
