Video shows possible tornado in Johnson Co. Looks like ‘brief touch down,’ weather service says
A local amateur storm spotter captured video Tuesday of what appeared to be a tornado coming down in Johnson County.
Kevin Bono tweeted the video, which has since garnered more than 3,300 views.
The video was taken near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Interstate 435 around 4:15 p.m.
“It’s on the ground,” Bono can be heard saying in the video as the funnel makes its way down. “Tornado on the ground. There you go.”
Bono mentioned he called police to report what he saw. Some on Twitter wondered why they heard no warning sirens.
The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch earlier Tuesday for the Kansas City metropolitan area, which included Johnson County. The tornado watch was later canceled but the area remained under a flood watch.
After seeing Bono’s video Tuesday night, the Weather Service tweeted it looked “like there may have been a brief touch down.”
