Two children killed, two other children injured in crash southwest of Kansas City

Two children died and two other children were injured in a two-vehicle crash east of Ottawa, Kan., Monday night.

The two drivers were also injured in the wreck, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kansas 68 and Tennessee Road, about 6.5 miles east of Ottawa in rural Franklin County.

The children killed in the crash were identified as Briana Sobba, 11, and Becham Klemen, 3, both of Wellsville. Both were wearing safety restraints, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Becham was in a child safety seat.

The two injured children, ages 6 and 12, were taken to a hospital and transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Details about their injuries were not available Tuesday morning. One of the children was not wearing a safety restraint, according to the highway patrol.

The children were passengers in a 2010 Ford Focus that was headed south on Tennessee Road. The car failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection, according to the highway patrol. It was struck on the passenger side by a 2003 Subaru Baja that was headed west.

The driver of the Focus, a 31-year-old Wellsville woman, was taken to a Kansas City hospital. The driver of the Baja, a 40-year-old Ottawa man, was taken to an Overland Park hospital. Details about their injuries were not available.
