Two people from Kansas City, Kan., were killed after their car went off the highway and struck a tree Wednesday afternoon in Bonner Springs, police said.

The victims were identified as Anthony Eisele, 34, and Amy Toth, 29, according to a news release posted on Facebook by the Bonner Springs Police Department.

The single-vehicle crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in the 11500 block of Kansas Highway 32, also known as Kaw Drive.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 2:26 p.m. Witnesses told police a black passenger vehicle, a Hyundai Tiburon, was heading westbound when it went off the road, hit a tree and caught on fire.

Police said the two people inside the vehicle, Eisele and Toth, died before officers arrived.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Edwardsville Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
