Crash involving stolen car kills one, injures two others in Kansas City

A car stolen out of Omaha crashed early Thursday into a tree at a high speed in northeast Kansas City, killing one person and injuring two others.

Police said the BMW was headed west at a high speed on Thompson Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Thursday when the driver lost control at Askew Avenue, according to police

The car hit the tree, flipped and slid on its hood and roof until crashing into a parked Ford Focus. One of the BMW’s three occupants was ejected.

Emergency workers took all three people to the hospital, where one person was pronounced dead. A second person sustained what is believed to be life-threatening injuries and the third person had serious injuries. None was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Police said the BMW had been stolen during a home invasion robbery in Omaha.
