At Sporting Park, wounded veteran’s family gets a free home
A retired Army sergeant from Fort Riley who was wounded on his fourth tour of duty in Iraq was presented with a free home Wednesday by the Military Warriors Support Foundation.
Charles “Chuck” Cleghorn is relocating to Michigan with his family. The presentation was made at Sporting Park just before the Sporting KC game.
The renovated house, donated by Bank of America, will have no mortgage payments. Cleghorn will receive the deed after a three-year mentoring program.
Cleghorn is originally from Springfield, Ill., and enlisted in the Army in 1996.
The nonprofit foundation was established in 2007 to provide support for wounded soldiers as they transition to civilian life. The foundation acts in partnership with Walmart and Dr Pepper Snapple.
Cleghorn’s family includes wife Denise, two daughters and a service dog, Boomie, who helps Cleghorn with post-traumatic stress disorder.
