'Some people don’t believe what the serviceman been through': Memorial Day in KC
Many Kansas City-area residents, including military veterans, attended Memorial Day weekend events at Union Station and the National World War I Museum and Memorial.
On Sunday, Korean War veteran David Degois was among those who visited the memorial and reflected on the costs of war.
"Memorial Day, to me, is to remember my colleagues who fell in the field," Degois said. "Some people don't believe what the serviceman been through."
Events continue Monday at the museum with a pancake breakfast and a formal public program at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Courtyard. U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II and Mayor Sly James are scheduled to speak.
A music performance follows at noon and a Walk of Honor dedication at 2 p.m. For more information, visit theworldwar.org.
