KC police seek this man in connection to shooting that killed dad-to-be at job site

Kansas City police released photos Tuesday evening of a subject of interest in connection to a fatal shooting near 9th and Brooklyn streets.

The subject of interest was described by police as a black male between 25 and 30 years old. He was last seen in the area of the shooting. He left heading in the northeast direction and was wearing a dark sweatshirt and gray pants, police said.

The man was "involved in the homicide," police added.

Anyone with information about the subject of interest's whereabouts or identity is encouraged to call Kansas City police at 816-234-5043 or to submit a tip anonymously at 816-474-8477.

The victim in the shooting was earlier identified as Johnathon L. Porter, 23.

Porter's mother said the man had recently moved to Kansas City to be closer to relatives. He was engaged and expecting a child next month.

Lindy Porter also said police told her that the gunman had asked for a cigarette. Porter couldn't help the man, who turned around and walked away before stopping, wheeling and firing, Lindy Porter said.
