Harrisonville begins search for new superintendent after current leader goes on leave

The Harrisonville Board of Education has taken its first steps to look for the next superintendent, including asking for the community's input on how best to replace retiring Superintendent Frank Dahman.

The school board on Tuesday voted to ask the Missouri School Board Association to conduct meetings with the public, administrators and staff April 24 and 25. The public's meeting is set for 5 p.m. April 25 in the Harrisonville High School library.

Board president Tina Graef said the board wants community members, parents and staff to complete an online survey, on qualities to look for in a new leader.

The survey, to be posted on the district's website, will be open through April 26.

Dahman who is on paid leave until his retirement June 30. Dahman submitted a letter on April 10 notifying the board of his retirement. He was hired as superintendent before the 2015-16 school year.

Earlier this month, the school board named Robert Watkins, a former superintendent for Independence schools, as interim superintendent.

The superintendent job posting has been added to the Missouri School Board Association website. The district said it was also sent to all school districts in the state and posted on the National School Board Association website Wednesday.

The job posting says the salary range for the position is $135,000 to $150,000, and the initial contract is for two years.

The application deadline is April 30.
