A one-mile section of Ward Parkway will close to vehicle traffic from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday to make way for the Cycle in the City event.

The parkway will be closed between 63rd Street and Gregory Boulevard to make way for a street festival oriented to pedestrians and cyclists. The event is from 2 to 5 p.m.

The festival, modeled on others across the globe, is designed to encourage people to experience the parkway through walking, cycling, jogging, skating and playing. Food, music and activities will be available in the median.

Traffic will be detoured to other major thoroughfares. The city will post “neighborhood traffic only” signs at entry points to Ward Parkway neighborhoods and will have police or crowd control staff at strategic intersections.
