New playground opens at zoo
A new, animal-themed playground for humans opens Friday at the Kansas City Zoo.
The $225,000 project, half of which was funded by Kansas City Southern, is designed for kids 2-12 and is accessible for the disabled. It sits on a safety surface made with 13,500 pounds of rubber from recycled tires. There is a shaded seating area for parents.
The playground near the Discovery Barn replaces one that was aging. Some of the old equipment was given to animals for their amusement. Click here to see video of chimpanzees at play.
