Thirty-four tons of streetcar rail to inch up Main Street in wee hours
Four sections of steel rail for the Kansas City streetcar project, each 465 feet long, will be transported up Main Street to the Delaware Street bridge in the early morning hours Thursday.
The rails weigh a total of 34 tons. It will take up to four hours to move them 1.1 miles from the viaduct south of 20th Street to the bridge over Interstate 70.
The move is scheduled to begin at 2 a.m. Main Street will remain open but traffic will be blocked periodically at intersections.
