14 people taken to hospital, 1 critically injured, when ATA bus and car collide

One person was critically injured late Friday morning when an ATA bus collided with a car.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. Friday at 25th and Charlotte streets near Children's Mercy Hospital.

Police said a man who was a rear seat passenger in the car was critically injured. A woman and a 2-year-old in the car were also injured, and all three were taken to a hospital.

Eleven people on the bus were also taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash.

It appeared the bus collided with the driver's side of the car. After the crash, the bus was facing west on 25th Street, and the car was facing south on Charlotte.

The intersection used to be controlled by traffic light, but people who work in the area said that the intersection was recently changed so it only has a stop sign for traffic on Charlotte.
