Independence police identify two pedestrians struck by train
Independence authorities on Monday identified two people struck by a train Friday night as Denise Cooley, 57, who died, and Edwin Moore, 57, who sustained serious injuries.
The train struck them near East Winner Road and South Home Avenue, in an area that does not have a designated rail crossing. Kansas City Southern Railroad reported the incident to police about 8:10 p.m. Friday.
Moore continues to receive treatment for his injuries.
The couple, originally from Colorado, had been in the Independence for about two weeks, according to the Independence police. Neither had established a permanent residence in the city.
