Overnight car fire claims two lives in Kansas City

Two men died early Saturday morning in a car crash and fire near 9th and Holmes streets in downtown Kansas City.

Police said the men were trapped in a burning Toyota after an accident that occurred about 2:30 a.m. The victims’ identities were not immediately available.

Kansas City police were investigating reports that the accident occurred after the car was involved in street racing. Police said the car hit a rock wall at 918 E. Ninth St. after leaving the road.
