Overland Park man, 23, killed in crash with forklift near Topeka
A 23-year-old Overland Park man died Sunday evening in a crash with a forklift in Silver Lake, Kan.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Daniel V. Martinez.
The crash occurred about 6:20 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of West Railroad Street in Silver Lake, which is about 10 miles west of Topeka on U.S. Route 24.
Martinez was headed east in an orange Dodge Challenger when the car crossed the center line and struck a large forklift parked off the north side of the road. No other vehicles were involved, according to the sheriff’s office.
Martinez, who was the only person inside the car, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
