Independence police on Thursday said a man with autism was found safe hours after being reported missing from a group home.

Police had asked the public for help in finding the 27-year-old man, who they said has autism and is non-verbal. Shortly after 1:30 p.m., they said the man was found unharmed by police in Kansas City

Officers had been searching for the man near Leslie Drive and Linwood Avenue in Independence. He had reportedly left a group home about 9 a.m.
