Michael Forbes Bar & Grille, a popular Brookside restaurant, has closed for repairs after a fire.

The fire ignited in the restaurant’s basement late Wednesday.

“We are thankful that no one was injured and that the Kansas City Fire Department was here to help,” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page.

“Unfortunately we will be closed in order to repair these damages and will be sure to update you as soon as we are aware of the timeline.”

The smell of smoke trickled from the open windows of the restaurant Thursday morning.

On the entrances to the restaurant at 128 W. 63rd St., handwritten signs were taped to the doors, greeting customers who hadn’t heard of the fire.

“Due to the fire we are temporarily closed,” the signs read. “We will re-open as soon as possible. Thanks!”
