Skywalk Memorial project receives gift
The effort to create a memorial to the victims and responders to the 1981 skywalks disaster at the Hyatt Regency Hotel has received a $25,000 donation from Centric Projects LLC of Kansas City.
The donation brings the project closer to its goal of raising about $546,000 needed to break ground. The non-profit Skywalk Memorial Foundation still needs about $65,000.
Centric Projects previously agreed to manage construction of the planned memorial in Hospital Hill Park. Company co-founder Richard Wetzel encouraged other contractors to make cash or in-kind donations to the project.
One hundred fourteen people were killed and more than 200 were injured in the disaster.
