Motorcyclist who died in Midtown Kansas City was a 33-year-old father of a toddler
A motorcyclist who died Saturday evening in Kansas City has been identified.
Jim Mullens, 33, died in a crash around 6:05 p.m. near 33rd Street and Gillham Plaza, near the Costco in Midtown Kansas City, his family confirmed. KSHB reported that two brothers were riding motorcycles together at the time of the crash.
While heading south on Gillham, Mullens lost control of his motorcycle and crossed the center line, police said. The motorcycle struck a northbound Ford Focus head-on, ejecting Mullens. Emergency crews rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford Focus was not injured.
Mullens was a drafting engineer who lived in Raymore and graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School in 2003, according to his family. He loved his riding his Harley with his brother and friends, and customizing his Jeep. He was married in June 2015 and had an 18-month-old son.
A GoFundMe page has been started for Mullens’ funeral expenses and to help with his son’s education. As of Monday afternoon, it had raised nearly $6,000 of a $20,000 goal.
“Jim was a great father, husband, son and brother,” said Jamie Mullens, his sister-in-law. “The friends and family are beyond devastated by the loss and appreciate all the prayers and support. Anything donated to help his wife and young son is appreciated.”
