A newly wed couple from Gardner, Kan., died Sunday night in a plane crash near Branson, Mo.

Keith M. Curtis Sr., 52, and Dawn Curtis, 45, had flown to Branson for a pre-Christmas family vacation. Their single-engine aircraft, piloted by Keith Curtis, went down about 6:45 p.m. in a field about a mile from the Branson West Airport.

The couple married Nov. 11.

“They were the type of people that made you happier when you were in their presence,” a family member said in a statement to told Fox 4 news. “They loved to travel, were adventurous, and loved life, loving it all the more together.”

Witnesses told authorities the plane sounded like it was having engine trouble before the crash.

Investigators with the FAA were expected on the scene Monday.
