A wrong-way wreck Tuesday night shut down traffic on northbound Interstate 435 in Clay County, police said.

The wreck was as reported about 10:30 p.m. after a vehicle traveling southbound on I-435 entered the northbound lanes and struck another vehicle.

Traffic was halted on northbound I-435 just past I-35, and one southbound lane at Shoal Creek Parkway was closed due to the wreck.

Officials said southbound I-435 was backed up to Missouri 152 with stop-and-go traffic.

Police did not say how many people were hurt, but their injuries were not considered life threatening.

Traffic officials in Kansas were also investigating a wreck that closed northbound I-435 past I-35 in Lenexa about the same time.
