Independence substitute teacher accused of hurting third-graders

Authorities are investigating allegations made against a substitute teacher at Spring Branch Elementary School last week.

Independence schools spokeswoman Jana Corrie said that because the allegations involved personnel, she could not discuss specifics.

“When the principal learned of the allegations, the substitute was asked to leave, and he did.”

The principal also notified the Missouri Children’s Division, Corrie said in an email.

“We take our student safety very seriously, and we are investigating. Until that investigation is complete, the substitute will not be back in our schools,” Corrie added.

The principal, in addition to talking to students in the classroom, spoke with parents of each child in the classroom, the district said.

Spring Branch Elementary is at 20404 E. Truman Road.
