A St. Joseph woman is facing a felony charge of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death, according to court records.

Sydney E. Jones, 27, was charged on Friday with the crime. She was arrested by St. Joseph police.

Jones allegedly pinned a 6-month-old underwater in a bathtub in her apartment overnight on Thursday, according to court documents cited by KSHB.

A witness said Jones held the baby underwater in an inflatable child’s tub, which was placed in a bathtub while the water was running, the St. Joseph News-Press reported.

Jones lived in an apartment unit in the 200 block of Texas Ave.

She faces a minimum of 20 years in prison, according to Missouri law.

Her bond was set at $100,000. She’s scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
