88-year-old Lenexa man riding motorized scooter in roadway killed in traffic crash

An 88-year-old Lenexa man riding a motorized scooter in the roadway has died in a traffic crash with a car early Saturday.

Police on Monday identified the man as James R. Westerdahl. He suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and later died at a hospital.

Police responded to the traffic crash involving the car and pedestrian on a motorized scooter shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday in the 14300 block of West 87th Street Parkway, near the Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.

The Lenexa Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the crash, police said.
