The Kansas Highway Patrol has released the name of a 19-year-old killed in a wreck Friday on Kansas 7 in Shawnee.
Derek J. Drennon of Lansing was killed in the crash, which occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Kansas 7 near 83rd Street.
According to the patrol, Drennon had been driving a 2016 Ford Edge SUV northbound on Kansas 7 and was passing traffic on the right shoulder when he lost control. The Ford sideswiped another vehicle traveling northbound in the right lane.
The Ford then cut across the highway and entered the median, where it rolled over multiple times, ejecting Drennon.
In the southbound lanes, the Ford struck a Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV, and debris from that impact struck another vehicle.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was injured and was taken to a hospital.
